Arts in Education Program
Bringing innovative Arts in Education Residencies to schools and community centers throughout Berks, Lancaster, and Schuylkill Counties.
Imagine the power of arts in education by learning geometry by folding and stitching your own book, by investigating biology by sketching the plants and wildlife of our local ecosystem or by writing a puppet theatre about the Battle of Gettysburg. The Arts in Education Program at Millersville University helps bring this quality of learning to our area by placing skilled teaching artist in residencies in K-12 public schools, senior centers, and other community organizations.
About the Arts in Education Program
The Arts in Education Program at Millersville University is a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA) Partner organization that recruits, selects, trains, places, and evaluates professional-quality teaching artists for residencies in school and community settings. An Arts in Education Residency grant supports a teaching artist and a host site (for example, a K-12 school, senior center, veterans’ home, or medical facility) to provide the opportunity for a professional teaching artist to work with small groups of learners on one or more long-term projects. The organization or school that is interested in hosting the artist residency should apply for the grant. To apply for an Arts in Education residency grant, contact Julie Pyle Childs, Program Manager by phone at 717-871-4207 or by email at juliepyle.childs@millersville.edu.
