Bassist, vocalist, and composer Mali Obomsawin and her band will perform live against the backdrop of the film SUGARCANE, for which she composed the score. The Academy Award-nominated Nat Geo documentary investigates abuses at an Indian residential school that ignite a reckoning on the nearby Sugarcane Reserve.

At 6:30 PM, there will be a pre-screening community panel discussion in the Salon featuring the following experts:

Dr. Mary Ann Levine is a Professor of History and Archaeology and Department Chair of Anthropology at Franklin & Marshall College. Her research work explores and challenges unexamined assumptions about indigenous peoples. 

• Jessica McPherson is a Susquehanna Indian and a Master Artisan & Arts Culture Impact Consultant who has just completed her role as a Reckoning with Lancaster Community Fellow and is currently serving as a Visiting Scholar at F&M. 

MaryAnn Robins of the Onondaga Nation is President Emeritus of the Circle Legacy Center, a leader in the Lancaster-area indigenous community, and a Carlisle Indian School descendant.

Frank Vitale is the Millersville University Archivist & Special Collections Librarian and a Carlisle Indian School Digital Resource Center Project Partner.
